We appreciate your support. Your donations go towards creation of new work, studio space, dancers, musicians, Associates programme, education projects and new collaborators.
Watkins Dance Company was formed in May 2011 by Anna Watkins. Like most small dance companies we need as much support and help possible to secure our future. We have been fortunate enough to receive funding from the Arts Council England for 2012, 2014, 2017, 2018 and 2023 productions. We have also received funds from IdeasTap and commissions from NPO's such as Swindon Dance & East London Dance Ideas Initiative Fund.
Anna was awarded Associate Artist at Swindon Dance for 2017 - 2018 and Arts Council England funded project, collaboration with Triple Bill | Organic Entity.
Awarded Arts Council England funding for SPRING 2018 - TRIPLE BILL. Featuring HUMAN ANIMAL, new short dance film and all female work based on the suppression of women in society today. Collaborative supporters; Swindon Dance, Pegasus Theatre & Film Oxford.
In 2019, Anna was commissioned by Swindon Dance to create and perform in a new duet, for Swindon Spring Festival of Literature and the Arts. The duet went international last June as part of DAP Festival 2019 - International Dance and Visual Arts Festival. The duet was also performed at Rambert in celebration of The Playground two year anniversary.
Anna was also commissioned by Film Oxford to create a new short dance film for project FLUX bringing three artists together - dance, film and music. MORTELLE, the new short dance film and performance filming of new duet REPEL, were screened at various film festivals in summer 2019. Screenings included: Modern Art Oxford | Dancin' Oxford, Leeds Festival 2019 and Reading Festival 2019. 'MORTELLE' has now been nominated for an award in the Genre Awards category for:
Best Musical or Experimental Film
Oxford International Short Film Festival 2020
Film Oxford, Arts Council England.
We would like to continue our journey in developing the company, artistically keep challenging our ideas through research and development, supporting freelance artists, performances, educational training and high quality dancers. Working with new collaborators such as filmmakers, musicians and composers. Continue making our work inclusive and accessible for all.
Support our ASSOCIATES programme: For pre professional, training and recently graduated dancers. This programme offers training working with established choreographers and artists in the industry. We would like to offer more opportunities for our young dancers, such as external workshops, free mentoring sessions, support with showreels and support dancers with financial difficulties.
If you would like to help us continue our journey and support our future projects, any donations would be greatly appreciated. If you would like more information please contact us: [email protected]
Thank you for supporting us since 2011.
